- Human angiotensin II (any) has been used to study its effect on interleukin-1β-mediated islet inflammation and β-cell dysfunction.
- It has been used to determine whether angII activates specific isoforms of calcineurin-dependent NFAT (nuclear factor of activated T cells) in cardiomyocytes.
- It has been used to study the actions of systemic infusions of angII on glomerular patency in vivo.
- It has been used to test the effects of age on plasma triglyceride production and its association with insulin resistance in normal rats.
Biochemical / Physiological Actions
Angiotensin II (angII) is an octapeptide hormone that affects the activities of the heart, kidneys, vasculature, and brain. Angiotensinogen is the blood is produced from angiotensinogen through the renin and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). It works by binding to specific receptors present on cell membranes. AngII is a component of the renin-angiotensin system. It is associated with vasoconstriction, induction of vascular smooth muscle cell growth, stimulation of proto-oncogene expression, modulation of myocardial hypertrophy, renal failure, and fibrosis.
